Getting Oriented

Shoppe Better Brands is a sustainable department store and curated glossary of ethical and transparent brands across fashion, beauty, home, and lifestyle. We vet every brand so you can shop with confidence, without the guesswork.

Curated Edits are shoppable collections organized by mood, occasion, or season, such as Date Night, Resort, Travel, and Lounge. Every item comes from a vetted brand in our glossary.

The Registry lets you build a wishlist of vetted goods from across the site, perfect for weddings, baby showers, housewarmings, or just a running list of things you love. Add items as you browse, share the link with friends and family, and guests can purchase each item directly through the brand.

Exploring the Site

Three editorial sections under Discover. The Journal is our home for brand stories, conscious living writing, and longer reads. Spotlight features one brand each season in a deep-dive feature. Better Swaps suggests sustainable alternatives to mainstream products you already love.

The Soundtrack is our ongoing playlist, the music we work, browse, and unwind to. Sustainability is a lifestyle, and this is the sound of ours. Look for the corner player and press play while you explore.

The Market is our grocery and pantry section, featuring brands committed to clean ingredients, organic produce, and responsible sourcing. From cold-pressed oils to plant-based dairy, every brand has been vetted to the same standards as the rest of the site.

How It Works

No. When you click a product or brand link, you are taken directly to the brand's website to shop.

Yes. Some of our links are affiliate links, which means we earn a commission when you make a purchase through them. This helps keep the platform running, and it never affects our editorial choices. Read our full Disclosure for details.

Our Standards

We research and vet every brand across five pillars: people, planet, animal, origin, and health. We review publicly available information about a brand’s materials, certifications, supply chain practices, and stated commitments, including details published by the brand and third-party certification sources where available. Learn more on our Brand Criteria page.

It means we have done the research. We evaluate every brand across five pillars: people, planet, animal, origin, and health. Brands that do not meet our standards do not make the glossary, regardless of how popular they are.

Sustainability is a spectrum. Every brand in our glossary has been vetted for meaningful commitments to ethics, sustainability, or transparency. We do not require perfection. We look for real progress, clear standards, and demonstrated effort.

Brands evolve, and not always for the better. We revisit brands as new information comes to light. If changes in ownership, practices, materials, or public commitments no longer align with our standards, we update the listing or remove the brand from the glossary.

Growing the Glossary

As we find them, but never in a rush. Quality over quantity is the point, so new additions happen as we discover brands worth sharing and review them against our standards. Subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to know when new brands are added.

Absolutely. We love discovering new brands through our community. If there is a brand you think belongs in the glossary, visit our Suggest a Brand page and let us know.

Pricing

Ethical production costs more to do right. Fair wages, safer materials, smaller production runs, and responsible sourcing all add up. What you're paying for is not just the product, but the labor, materials, and resources behind it. The tradeoff is fewer, better things that last longer and carry fewer hidden costs for people and the planet.

Yes, and we think that matters. Sustainability should feel more accessible, not out of reach, so we try to include brands across a range of price points, from everyday staples to investment pieces. You can sort by price range on any shopping page to find what fits your budget.
